August 8. Right after breakfast this morning, Daddy and I went outside so I could cut his hair. The hair clippers weren’t going to cooperate, however. We had forgotten to charge up the battery after the last time we used the clippers. So we came back in and put the battery on to charge. In the mean time, I got a couple e-mails written. The clippers still weren’t fully charged after that, but I went ahead and finished cutting Daddy’s hair before it got too hot out. Then we put the clippers back on the charger until they were fully charged. A little before 10:00, Daddy and I started checking the rest of 1 Corinthians 9, and the Lord enabled us to check chapter 10 as well. Afterward I read a newsletter that had come on e-mail and also read an article for which Daddy had sent me a link. It was about the crackdown on religion in China. Just before noon, I started making chicken gravy to go with the chicken and taters I had fixed for Daddy yesterday. This afternoon, I got corrections made for the Scriptures we had worked on this morning and got everything set up in the print file. Also added the English for chapter 11 which, Lord willing, we can check tomorrow or Friday. The rest of the afternoon brought some concerns and extra business. In the morning, we had started hearing regular clicking sounds coming from the fridge. As the day wore on, the clicks got closer and closer together. Finally, out of curiosity, Connie checked up on the web and learned that either the relay and overload or the compressor had probably gone bad. Daddy called Mel about late afternoon as we realized that the freezer was thawing. Praise the Lord, Mel was in the area and came by and tried to fix it. We thought he had it fixed, but when we plugged it back in, it tripped the breaker. Daddy called Mel back and told him. Concluded that we need a new fridge. I put the ice packs in the big cooler, and loaded it up with frozen meat, fruits, and veggies. When the rain stopped, Daddy went out to buy bags of ice to use in the fridge, freezer, and small cooler. When he got back, I started filling up quart size bags with ice and putting them here and there in the fridge, freezer, and coolers. By then I was needing to sit down and rest a while before doing dishes. In the mean time, Christy and Connie went off to church. Daddy and I listened livestream. Pastor’s text this evening was Esther 3:15. Communication is one of the most important things you will ever do. You must get it right the first time. 1) Communication has consequences, 1:10-2:1ff. The whole story of Esther is built on communication. 2) Communication can be/is informative, 1:19. It was written down and told what was important to the men and what was expected of the women. Also chapter 10—all of Mordecai’s acts were written in a book. Wouldn’t you want to be informed of something that could save your life? 3) Communication needs to be in the language of the hearer, 1:22. 4) Communication must be delivered, 1:22; 3:13-15; 8:13,14. 5) Communication done in anger can bring consequences and regret, 1:12ff. 6) Communication can be life-saving, 2:21,22; Proverbs 18:21. 7) Communication can be destructive, 3:3-6 August 9. Connie’s birthday. No rest for the birthday girl, however. It has been quite a day. Lots of phone calls going back and forth trying to work out getting a “new” fridge. A co-worker of Bob C had an extra fridge he would be glad to get rid of. They just needed to plug it in for a while and see if it was working. The man was in meetings most of the day however, so we didn’t get any return calls. Daddy and I went out to Hendrick’s to check their scratch and dent fridges. They had some for a good price and also had some used fridges in the back for a good price. They looked nice too. We checked Sears Hometown store as well, but their fridges were much more except for a couple closeouts they had. While we were out, we made a stop again at an extended stay lodge. The manager said he was expecting someone to move out within an hour. He said because we kept coming back that he would put us on top of the list and suggested that we come back between 2:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon. On the way back to the girls’ house, we stopped at Dollar Tree to get some greeting cards. In the mean time, Mel had come and brought a small, old, dirty, moldy fridge. He parked the fridge on the carport and hosed it down. It needs a good scrubbing, and it may do as a second fridge to be parked permanently on the carport. We had lunch and a short nap. Christy came home from work early. And next thing we knew, Mel was driving in and brought the fridge from Bob C’s friend Bro. H. Lewis and I had to head back to the lodge, however, so left Mel and Kole to install the fridge. The girls were here, of course. Monty, the manager of the lodge gave us a key to look at the apartment. It is just a one-room studio apartment, but is nice and clean, has full-size fridge, a stove, microwave, double sink, cupboard and drawer space, closet, toilet and shower, bed with bedding. Is cooled by a window unit. Has plenty of room to put a table and a couple chairs so we can work. Will need to get some dishes, pots and pans, etc. When we got back to the girls’ place, Mel was still working. He was soon done, however, and we are very grateful for his giving so much of his time and work to help us. “21And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord…. 24For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord…. 26And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” Acts 11:21,24,26 Oh, that we would see many people turning to the Lord today and then being discipled so that they might reach even more people!
