January 8. Nineteenth day of winter. In the upper 20’s this morning—a wee bit warmer than it has been. Cloudy today. I remembered during the night that I hadn’t set the black beans in a pan to soak and that I was intending to make black bean soup this morning. So as soon as I came out to the kitchen, I put some beans in a pan of boiling water to soak. They soaked for a couple hours while I had quiet time, cooked oatmeal for breakfast and ate breakfast, made the bed, and looked for a black bean soup recipe. Then I started the beans cooking while I added veggies and seasoning. After the soup was on to cook, I transferred and edited pictures that I had taken yesterday evening and sent some of those along with journal notes to Connie. Started writing our monthly update. Fixed mashed potatoes for Daddy and made gravy from the chicken broth that had been saved from the chicken I cooked on Saturday. He had leftover chicken and veggies to go with the taters and gravy for lunch. This afternoon, I finished writing the update and we proofread it so it is ready for sending out to supporters. Made a new income report file for Daddy for 2018. “10For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” Psalm 84:10-12 How much better to be a humble servant of the LORD and stay close to Him than to be exalted and live a life of sin and wickedness. God has promised to those who live humbly with Him to be a sun (He’ll give us light) and shield (He’ll be our protector) for them. He has promised to give us grace (kindness, favor) and glory (honor). And He has promised that He will not withhold any good thing from them that walk uprightly. What blessings abound to those who trust the LORD!. January 9. Twentieth day of winter. The Lord gave us a lovely day with the welcome warmth of sunshine. It was still only 39º when Daddy hung out the clothes. Bedding had gone into the dryer so I could get the bed made up before our nap, but he volunteered to hang out the rest. My hands get much too cold at that temperature. If it is in the upper 40’s or so, I don’t mind too much. While the clothes were washing, we did some translation checking. Chapter 14 went quickly, praise the Lord, helping us to reach the two-thirds point in the book of John. When Daddy came back in from hanging clothes, we started on chapter 15, but ran into some snags so only finished about ten verses. We are so thankful for the Lord’s guidance in this awesome task. I realized this morning that I had been using size 11 font since I started putting John into the print file, whereas I was using size 10 previously. So went back and started changing John to size 10. Got the first four chapters done in the morning and another four in the afternoon. “4Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. 5For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.” Psalm 86:4,5 Amen! How God’s goodness rejoices the soul of His servant! I’m so thankful that He is always ready to forgive and that He is always plenteous in mercy to ALL that call upon Him.
