September 21 & 22. Did not get to write in my journal on the 21st so I don’t know how much of yesterday’s events I’ll remember. Woke up and arose from the bed a little before 6:00. There was a lot to do before the plane came. At least it wasn’t scheduled to come until mid-afternoon so I had time for my Pidgin Bible reading and for prayer. Also made the bed. Just about the whole rest of the morning was spent doing last-minute packing, weighing up the cargo, cleaning up the kitchen, putting away valuables (that is, printers, and extra computer that Anna Jean has been practicing on). Daddy talked to people at the door. Anna Jean and Zephaniah came around 8:00, I think, and waited around all day until the plane came. We had Anna Jean do a couple heavy jobs for us, plus answer the door. Otherwise she practiced computer. Zephaniah played with the Lego - type toys. We had leftover fish patties and pureed pumpkin for dinner. There was still lots of pumpkin left over so Anna Jean and Zephaniah each had a bowlful. After dinner, I washed up the dishes, and Daddy dried them and put them away. After that, I was so tired, but tried unsuccessfully to rest in the recliner. Finally went and lay down on the bed anyway. The day was overcast, but the mountain tops were clear. We heard planes coming and going most of the day. Early afternoon, SIL came and got a load of coffee for Danny. Finally we heard a sound like MAF’s plane coming to land in Owena. It was about 2:30. About the time we headed up the airstrip, it started raining lightly. We were thankful it didn’t rain hard, and Glennys was able to take off okay. Glennys’s husband, Jonny, was with her on the plane, as was another young man with the Rural Airstrip Authority. They had been going around to various airstrips doing surveys. There were rain clouds all the way to Goroka, but there was still fairly good visibility. We arrived in town a little after 3:00. We learned that things in town are calm right now, although tense. Police and defense force are patrolling the streets. Brian hadn’t brought the Aibai vehicle to the hangar so Wesley took us over to MAFTech. We had no vehicle the rest of the day, so we didn’t get to do any shopping. It was a bit late in the day to shop anyway. I unpacked all my belongings that I had brought to town for the week, and put them away. There is a man staying in Flat 2 who is from Cairns. His name is Nigel Gorry. He works with MAFTech, but goes back and forth to his home in Australia. He said he had met us a number of years ago when he worked with MAF. He said that Nigel is an English name and that recently, when someone hosted a Nigel get-together in England, there were 400 Nigels who showed up. 😊 We had had dinner at noon so had sandwiches for supper. After supper, I turned on my computer. I thought about reading a chapter in II Kings, but was too tired. I thought about writing an e-mail, but I was too tired. I thought about writing in my journal, but I was too tired. I shut my computer back off and got ready for bed. It must have been before 8:00 when I lay my head upon my pillow and was soon sound asleep. Now a new day has come and gone. Didn’t get up until a little after 6:00 this morning. But I did feel rested and was thankful for a long night’s rest. We had to wait for Brian to bring the truck over this morning before we could go out shopping. I had a little time to write an e-mail to Pastor Ogle while we were waiting. It was going on 8:30 before we were able to go out. Headed to Seng Da first, and got quite a few groceries there. From there we went to King Wee and got a good number of items there. After that we headed back to the flat to put groceries up, have a snack, and call Dr. Nellis to make sure he was in his office, My appointment was at noon, but we made a stop first at the post office to check on some unusual package notices that had come through MAF’s mailbox for us. Francis and Joanne noticed that the cards were dated December 2021, and there were no such packages there at the post office, and those particular cards were not the normal ones to use for a notice of over-sized mail. The post office was not very busy so we had a nice little chat with Joanne too. She told us that she goes to Open Door Baptist Church which is somewhere near the hospital. She gave us a business card with the pastor’s name and phone number so we can call and get directions to get there. Next, off to the dentist. As I thought, I have a number of cavities in several of my molars. Dr. Nellis didn’t do any work today, but rescheduled me for Monday at 9:00. Eventually, he will need to do a couple root canals which will take about three hours. For now he will do some fillings and also temporarily fill the ones that need root canals. When we left Dr. Nellis’s office, we went around the corner to a little store where Daddy bought some flex cards, and a phone for Anna Jean. Then we went to Papindo café for lunch (it was after 1:30, and going on 2:00 before they brought us our order), and then shopping in the store. Last of all, we went to Greenland and shopped before coming back to the flat. By then, it was going on 4:00. We put away what needed to go in the fridge, had a snack, and then lay down for a nap. Slept until 5:30, and then we had supper. Washed dishes this evening even though there weren’t very many, and then wrote in my journal.
