August 16. Praise the Lord for a day at home! And for a good night’s rest. I guess I was pretty tired out, as it didn’t take me long to get to sleep, and I never woke up or even moved (as far as I know) until 4:00 a.m. There was a lot to do today. Had to cook a grain (amaranth today) and fish for my breakfast. Added new addresses to our newsletter address list and to my personal 3x5 card file. Printed out thank you notes to send to the church we were at this past Sunday evening and the two we were at the Sunday before. Did the dishes. Later I added personal notes to the thank you notes I had printed out and also wrote two thank you notes by hand. Made the shopping list and printed it out. Left for church around 6:15. Pastor Ogle covered Exodus 22 this evening, entitling his message “The Dignity of Life.” It was a very interesting message, and it was obvious that he had studied out the material well. August 17. Woke up at 5:45 this morning. I wasn’t sleepy enough to go back to sleep so decided to go ahead and get up, shower, and wash my hair. I was thankful to have gotten a bit early start. When Daddy turned his phone on shortly before 7:00, there was a text message from Kevin R. He was wondering if we wanted him to come by with some Häagen-Dazs ice cream. We said “sure” so a little after 7:00, he arrived with a huge tub of mango sherbert. He came in for a while and had a cup of coffee and a granola bar, and we enjoyed a little fellowship. Connie didn’t even hear him come in. A little while later, she heard a couple men’s voices in the kitchen, she said, and wondered who was here so early in the morning. After Kevin went off to work, Connie cleaned out a spot in her freezer for the ice cream. Now how do we divide it up to share among the neighbors? We’ll have to come up with a plan. A little after 8:30, Daddy and I headed out to do shopping. First stop was Big Lots today. Found some cookies, granola bars, millet, and a few gift items. Then we went to WalMart, Aldi, the bank, and the post office. The workers at the bank were acting goofy this morning. Arrived home a little before 11:30, and put food away. Daddy went off to Subway for lunch, and I ate the other half of the wrap I had made for myself last night. Took a rather long nap, and then got busy in the kitchen making cream of celery soup. Worked on picture fixing while the soup was cooking and cooling a bit. Then I pureed up a blender container full and savored a delicious supper. Did up the dishes right away after supper as they hadn’t been done since yesterday morning.
