November 3. A nice warm day, but cloudy and rainy. It rained hard during the night, but there was a pretty sunrise this morning before the skies became black again. Thankful for a good night’s rest. Didn’t need to hurry this morning as we didn’t have far to go. Daddy went over to WalMart around 8:00 to get a new headlight put in, but they said there was two hours’ wait so he just bought the part and came back to the motel. After my breakfast and Bible reading (and making a little tail for the lamb), we packed up and then went for a little walk so I could get a few pictures of the autumn trees before we hit the road a little after 9:00. Left the motel room keys with the man who was working at the motel, and gave him a couple tracts too. We felt a bit sorry for the Filipino lady who operates the motel. They don’t seem to have many guests, and the motel needs some repairs and remodeling, but she obviously doesn’t have the means. She had to deal with a couple situations that came up during our stay, but just took it in stride. At least the rooms were clean and comfortable. We tried to show her kindness in her distress. The sun peeked through a couple times as we traveled; but mostly it was cloudy, and there was some rain too. Arrived at the Sumners’ a little before 12:30. Patty had a nice lunch ready—homemade potato soup and whole wheat chicken sandwiches. After lunch, Patty showed me some of her crafts she is working on, and I showed her the baby blanket, bib, and lamb I had finished as well as a picture of the sweater, hat, and booties, I had completed at home. Then I lay down for a nap. Daddy and Chuck got the headlight put in the car and fixed the clothes rod, but they couldn’t fix my window. Boo hoo! The fuse tested good. Don’t know why the motor would have gone bad so quickly—it was new just last year. Chuck also tested the battery and said it is low and should be replaced soon. When they finished working on the car, Daddy took a little nap. Patty fixed rice and a nice chicken-veggie casserole for supper, and we enjoyed good fellowship with Chuck and Patty in the evening. “19And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand. 20And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go. 21And I will give this people favour in the sight of the Egyptians: and it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty.” Exodus 3:19-21 God knows everything even before it comes to pass. God knew that our visa for PNG would not be granted in the time that we expected. However, God is still in control, and it is by His power that He will take us to PNG in the time that He has appointed. He will give us favor in the sight of those in authority, and it shall come to pass that, when we go (not if we go) we will go with all that we need. November 4. It was very warm last night. My throat and ears started hurting during the night, and I have already run out of echinacea. I do have a few extra cranberry and also have some ginger candy. Got Daddy up in the middle of the night to find me some ibuprofen. Patty fixed oatmeal for our breakfast, and we ate around 9:00. Afterward we sat around the table and chatted quite a while. Then I washed our clothes—hadn’t done any laundry since before we left home over a week ago. Thankful that we had brought extra clothing with us. Got into the computer to look at e-mails and write a couple. Haven’t had internet connections most of our trip so hadn’t written any e-mails before today. Had soup again for lunch, and more fellowship around the table. Nap after that, and then a walk through the woods, most of the way to the top of the knoll, with Patty. Took a few pictures. This evening, Daddy and Chuck went out to the church for prayer meeting. Patty and I chatted; she was working on embroidery; and I tried to do crocheting but was getting mixed up. Later in the evening, Daddy took our overnight case out to the car after we packed it up, and he saw that the light was on in the back. He wondered if the car would start in the morning. At Patty’s suggestion, he went ahead and tried it; and guess what. It wouldn’t start. We’re thankful for Chuck putting it on the charger so it will be ready to go tomorrow. “10And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. 11And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? 12Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.” Exodus 4:10-12 When the Lord has promised His presence and His power, we have no excuse for not being obedient to His commands.
